Pacific Northwest Road Trip: Day 19

Today we’re taking a little road trip with my sister and her husband to Vancouver Washinton (https://www.visitvancouverwa.com/). About a two-hour drive south, Vancouver is a city on the North bank of the Columbia River with Portland Oregon sitting along the opposite shore.

This is a vibrant city with lots of cafés, shops, wineries, parks and a beautiful river walk. Our hotel was only blocks from the river and we could walk to the restaurants that lined its banks. Because it is such a tourist town situated on the Columbia River, many restaurants had outdoor seating to take in the views, and most were pet friendly!

We decided to take advantage of this and had lunch at the riverside restaurant McMenamins (https://www.mcmenamins.com/mcmenamins-on-the-columbia). The food was fabulous, I had a half turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich, a side salad with “Mystic Dressing”; I don’t know what the dressing was made of but it was fantastic! Everyone’s meal was wonderful; they even gave Poppy her own bowl of cold water.

Poppy had a treat of her own!

We took a short drive to another part of town where there were shops, wineries and there was a lovely river walk along the Columbia River. Maryhill Winery Tasting Room & Bistro (https://www.maryhillwinery.com/)was one such establishment on the river with outdoor seating that was pet friendly, so we ventured in to have a glass of wine…it was lovely and such a lovely setting!

Heading back toward the hotel we planned to have dinner at Oswego Grill (https://www.oswegogrill.com/), which also had outdoor seating by the river but to our surprise it was not pet friendly. We decided to place an order to go, our hotel had a nice outdoor patio where we could eat comfortably with Poppy. Again, the food here was phenomenal!

After dinner we returned to walk along the Columbia River. The river walk has parks, beaches and views of the water on one side of the path; beautiful homes, condos, and apartments on the other.
