The River House Inn On The Water…

This will be the first post specifically for reviewing the hotel where we stayed during our time in Marine City, Michigan.

The hotel sits on the corner of Water Street and Bridge Street. It is a three-story hotel, the second story having walk-out balconies…which is why I chose this hotel, I wanted to have views of the St. Clair River. This hotel did not disappoint!!

We were assigned room 12 on the second floor, our balcony was the first one on the left when facing the hotel front.

There were two nice homes across the street partially blocking our view of the river to the left and a large parking lot next to the houses that offered unobstructed views to the right.

We saw eleven freighters on this trip, all but two we watched from the comfort of our balcony! We brought binoculars and a spotting scope with us, but honestly, it wasn’t really necessary. I never used either one, my husband did to check out details of the ship he thought interesting or to look for any crew that might be out.

The balcony had seating for two, and it was a lovely space to enjoy a cup of coffee, a glass of wine or savor the morning sunrise!

The room was modern, minimal but well laid out and very clean. There was a beverage station with a mini-fridge, two real stemmed wine glasses, and a corkscrew. The hotel has 24/7 coffee-tea available in their breakfast area, but I like to travel with a small Keurig and there was plenty of space for that too.

This is a King size bed and there’s plenty of space to walk around each side of the bed. The blue love seat is generous in size with an ottoman, it is very comfy seating, we utilized it a lot during our stay. There isn’t a wardrobe or dressers, but the closet is fairly large, and you could request extra hangers if needed.

The bathroom is decent sized; I missed taking a photo of the inside. The toilet is directly to the left, and the sink is directly to the right upon entering, the shower which you can see in this photo, is a walk-in.

The bed was comfortable and the sheets were really soft. The room temperature during our stay was perfect during the day…we did not need to use heat or air, but when we went to sleep, I turned the air conditioner on 68 and was comfortable all night. The drapes and the window shade were room darkening, and we did not have any issues with outside streetlights keeping us awake.

On the second floor, sandwiched between rooms 11 and 12, there is a communal lounge. It has comfortable seating, a television, a desk and two small tables and chairs. A large window affords views of the river similar to the views from our balcony. Since our room did not have a table or adequate space for a meal, we used this space to eat dinner that we ordered from a local restaurant and brought back to the hotel…plus it keeps your room from smelling like food. I did not explore the other floors so I cannot state for sure if each floor has it’s own lounge.

Other amenities at this hotel include bicycles for rent to explore the downtown area and surrounding neighborhoods. They have a bar on the main floor, and part of it is like a screened in porch with views to the street. We didn’t stop in but the ambience stemming from the bar seemed inviting. During the week they have a cold, grab & go breakfast with items such as bagels, yogurt, banana bread, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, tea, & water. On Saturday & Sunday they offer some hot breakfast items; our stay was Sunday to Tuesday so I cannot specify what the hot breakfast contains. To

The only things I would have liked to see would be a second trash can in the room. There is a generous trash can in the bathroom, but it would be nice to have a 2nd one in the main room also. Second, the lighting is not the brightest; not a big deal really in the main part of the room, but I would have like more light in the bathroom for applying makeup and getting ready in the mornings. Still, those to issues are big deal.

Overall, I loved my time at The River House Inn On The Water. The location is fantastic and a balcony room is worth every penny. The room accommodation was clean, comfortable and exceeded my expectations.

The biggest plus was that it is pet friendly!! Little Miss Poppy had a wonderful time as well. She loved all the walks around the parks and along the river front; returning each evening tuckered out and slept great. Proving my motto that a tired dog is a good dog!

If you ever plan on visiting Marine City and the surrounding area give this hotel serious consideration. I give it a 5-star rating and will stay here again!
