Taking advantage of the beautiful autumn weather and spending a couple of days in Marine City, Michigan. We have never spent time here and first impressions are great. We’re staying at a fantastic hotel called The River House Hotel Marine City. I specifically chose it as they have rooms with balcony’s that look out toward the river. The driving factor for exploring Marine City is for freighter spotting and we were rewarded right away! Minutes after stepping out on our room’s balcony we spotted this beauty, the Algoma Harvester.

We arrived early evening and after checking into our hotel we took a stroll down Water Street, and as the name suggests it follows along the St. Clair River. There are multiple small parks popping up along the shoreline, each one unique.
There is a park right across the street from our hotel, which I believe is called the Nautical Mile Park, I didn’t see sign but that is what is listed on Google maps. It is primarily green space with benches facing the water. Poppy and I posed for a photo next to a beautiful maple tree.

The Civic Women’s Club River Park was adorable and decorated for the autumn season! Throughout town there were beautiful mosaics depicting ships that were built in Marine City over the years with a short description of their history.

Lighthouse Park contained…you guessed it, a lighthouse! It doesn’t look to be a working lighthouse as it is too far off the water, most likely just Marine City landmark.

Not far from here we came across this sign that notifies the public of a livestreaming camera. We went to the website and found the livestream, hubby sent texted the link to his brother in New York telling him we were currently in the area. His brother saw us and sent us a screen shot of us on the livestream…how cool!

The next park we came to was Veterans Park, a very well done tribute.

After all that exploring it was time to get some dinner. We ordered to go meals from Marine City Fish Company (https://www.marinecityfishcompany.com/) and it was fantastic! Hubby got the beer battered perch sandwich with fries & coleslaw. I opted for a brisket sandwich with au jus, BBQ sauce, fries & coleslaw. Definitely recommended if you’re ever in the area.
We didn’t have a table in our room but there was a lounge on our floor so we ate in there with a window view of the river.

We relaxed in our hotel room for the evening, watching for freighters that may be traversing northbound or southbound on the river. There is a great little website/app called Boat Nerd (https://www.boatnerd.com/) that shows all the sailing vessels on the Great Lakes. It gives their direction, name of the vessel, their size, destination; you can even plot way points so you have an ETA when they will be appearing at your location. This is how we can track and be ready to see them pass by.
The night sky was eerily beautiful and bid us good night.
