Day 20
We had breakfast with my sister and her husband this morning, all too soon it was time for prayer, hugs and good-byes. Our time here has been amazing and a trip we will look back on with great affection, but we are eager to get home.
The goal is to make it to Missoula Montana. We are taking the same route home that we took coming, but I have the feeling that even though it will be the same distances it will seem so much longer and slower! LOL
Day 21
This morning we left Missoula Montana heading to Dickinson North Dakota, where we will be stopping for the night. We made really good time today with an ETA into Dickinson around 5:30pm. On day 3 of this blog, we happened upon a scenic overlook that was a part of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It so captured our attention that we decided to take a detour to explore this park a bit more.
It was overcast and lightly raining when we arrived at the park, so we decided to drive the 36-mile scenic loop around the park. I was a bit worried that the rain might deter the opportunity to see some animals, I needn’t have worried!
Within a quarter of a mile drive in the park, we saw this big, beautiful beau!

Then, just a little bit further up the road we saw another one. I took way too many photos and videos, but I couldn’t help but try to capture the moment…it was incredible! Even when in Yellowstone National Park I wasn’t this close to Bison!

Driving on we continued to see lone bison roaming along the roadside. The park has a prolific prairie dog population. The park calls their numerous colonies “prairie dog towns”; they should call them “prairie dog metropolis”. Expansive fields are filled with prairie dog holes, burrows and tunnels…I couldn’t capture the scope of it on my camera. They sure are cute!

Other animals that can be seen in the park are elk, mule deer, pronghorns, bighorn sheep, coyotes, and what I was really hoping to see, wild horses! We had our binoculars with us, stopping multiple times to scan the landscape but alas, we did not catch a glimpse of the elusive herd.

We both really love this park and agreed that we need to make a return trip to camp and explore this park in depth. Hmm…I think I feel another adventure brewing!
As we left the park we were given a special blessing from our Heavenly Father, what a way to end this wonderful adventure! Amen
