The Oscoda has been a very pet friendly area, and on this day, we took a walk through Oscoda’s Beach Park.
It was windy and the skies were mostly overcast but for me, anytime near the water is a good time! This park has a boardwalk from the parking lot that leads to a long pier into Lake Huron.
Poppy is not a fan of bridges, and a pier is like a very long bridge to her; with a little coaxing she made it to the end.

This is a really nice park, very well maintained. The boardwalk continues the length of the park, which would make it very accessible for those with mobility issues. My sister-in-law informed me that there are plans to extend the boardwalk or some other type of substrate, to offer accessibility down to the beach as well.
We strolled down the length of the boardwalk and noticed many of the park’s amenities. The park is approximately 9.5 acres; there’s multiple playgrounds, a kid’s splash pad, basketball court, picnic tables and grills, a small skate park, and a band shelter. I didn’t see concession stands but there was a coffee & sandwich food truck in the parking lot. We visited on a Sunday morning, so I would imagine there could be more food trucks that visit the area on weekends or during special events in the area.
This park also boasts around 1,000 feet of beach along Lake Huron. Hot summer months swimmers and kayakers can enjoy the water. There is a collection of life vests, mostly in various kid sizes, that are free for public use. These are provided on the “honor system”, utilize the life jackets any day for as long as needed, but please return them when finished…that is so cool! There is also a bathhouse, and restrooms open for public use as well.
This sign contains information about the many different types of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails that are in the area. There is also a canoe/kayak trail and various boat launch and fishing locations.
Lake Michigan is the most popular Great Lake and Lake Erie is the most visited, but Lake Huron truly is a gem!

I walked Molly along the shore this morning and counted less than a dozen people — a little surprising given it’s the run-up to the Labor Day weekend — but I suppose the early return to school has something to do with that. It’ll be much busier in a couple of days, especially with good weather in the forecast.
