Pacific Northwest Road Trip: Day 18

Today we are taking a day trip to Issaquah, Washinton. My brother-in-law had surgery last week to repair some torn ligaments in his arm and today is his first post-op recheck and suture removal.

There happened to be a nice walking path just behind the medical facility parking lot that was quite nice.  The path was paved and wound its way through green spaces and behind neighborhoods. Many of the medical staff must walk this path during lunch breaks as we saw a number of people in scrubs. This was a perfect way to spend the time as we waited for my brother-in-law’s appointment to finish.

My sister planned for us to visit Snoqualmie Falls (https://www.snoqualmiefalls.com/), which was just a short drive away and pet friendly!! Finding the free parking lot for the falls was a bit tricky, after a few turn arounds we finally saw the entrance on the opposite side of the road. There was a pedestrian bridge that you used to cross the busy roadway to the entrance to park entrance.

The falls have an upper viewing area at the top of the falls and a lower viewing area at the base of the falls. The upper viewing area is ADA accessible, the views from this area are impressive, dropping 270-feet!

Our first view of the falls

To reach the lower viewing area you need to hike 1.4 miles to the base of the falls. This didn’t seem undoable, we’ve hiked much longer trails while in the Redwoods, however, this trail is very steep…whatever goes down, must come up! After about ¼ of the way down, three out of the four of us wanted to forego continuing down to the base of the falls. I think my sister could have done the hike twice and not be winded, but she was a good sport, and we turned to climb back out to the top of the falls. It probably didn’t help that I decided to dress more warmly on this hike thinking it would be similar in temperature to our Mount Rainier hike…wrong again! LOL

On the trail to the lower falls

The Salish Lodge & Spa (https://www.salishlodge.com/) sits at the top of the falls and looks like an amazing place to stay. There’s also a gift shop, coffee and ice cream shop…of course I had to get ice cream before we left!
