Today we took a drive out to Mukilteo Lighthouse Park (https://www.americasstateparks.org/state-park/mukilteo-lighthouse-park/) which is situated on Puget Sound. It was hopping with activity. The schools have just let out for summer vacation in this area and many families were having summer kick-off and graduation gatherings…on a weekday! It was nice to see everyone happy and active.

The beach was coarse and rocky with lots of driftwood piled up on the edges of the beach. We found one to sit on and take in the views, even Poppy was having a great time.

There is a long pier and river walk along the sound that leads to Mukilteo Lighthouse. The lighthouse itself wasn’t open, but we peered inside the windows to see some of the artifacts on display. The flowers growing around the light house were amazing, plants grow so well here in this coastal climate.

There are two ferries that carry people and cars across the sound to Whidbey Island. The time for the ferry to sail to the island is 15-20 minutes but this does not include waiting times for embarking and disembarking. The drive time to the island can be 1.5 to 2 hours or longer depending on traffic. Whidbey Island (https://whidbeycamanoislands.com/) is home to a Naval Air Station, several towns, parks ideal for hiking, biking, kayaking, bird and whale watching. We didn’t take the ferry over on this trip, maybe on our next visit.

As we were leaving the park, vendors for a Farmers Market were setting up their tents. They did not officially open until 3:00pm but The French Guys bakery let us buy some bread and pastries. All I can say is WOW! So good, definitely check them out if you are in the Seattle area where their storefront is located, they also have a list of all the different farmers markets they visit on their website. https://www.thefrenchguys.com/
Before heading out, we walked to the little downtown area for some ice cream. My hubby and sister both got a twist cone but I opted for a root bear float! I can’t remember the last time I had one of those, it was so refreshing. We had a lovely chat with two older women who were cousins and lived in the area. It is such a blessing to meet locals and get a glimpse into their lives.
