Our last hike for today, Endert’s Beach, was one that would lead us down to the shoreline of the ocean. This hike was much more arduous than the last two; it is labeled as moderate and may not be suitable for everyone. There is a steep drop toward the beach which got us winded on the climb back out. The last part of the trail opens out onto a ridge that dead ends to a rocky outcrop that you will need to scramble down to reach the beach. Though this is a challenging hike it is definitely worth the effort!

The trail initially is level and wide enough for two hikers’ side by side.

The closer you get to the ocean, the narrower the trail becomes.

It was not pleasant to have to traverse through the dense overgrowth covering the trail…ticks anyone? Definitely need to bring a spray containing DEET for this hike, ours must have done the job as we did not find any the nasty things upon us.
After this the trail opens up upon a high ridge with spectacular views of the ocean and beach below.

We planned to have lunch on the beach and brought with us backpack chairs, lunch meat, cheese, wraps, chips, water, granola bars and cherries. What a magnificent view we had during lunch!

We planned to be at Endert’s Beach at low tide so we could go tide pooling after lunch. I have never been to a tide pool before; it was amazing and so much fun! If you have never done this activity, I highly recommend it for the young and the young at heart!

The Green Sea Anemone is so pretty! They feel sticky, retracting their tentacles when touched in an effort to draw in what they think is prey. The stinging cells of the anemone is what makes them feel sticky to us, but to prey such as small fish, crabs, or worms they are venomous. They are harmless to people as they are not able to penetrate human skin.

The “STAR” of the show, however, had to be the starfish! What an amazing world in which we live!

O LORD, how countless are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures! Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number—living things both large and small. ~Psalm 104:24-25
