Pacific Northwest Road Trip: Day 5

Today was the first full day of non-travel! We went to the Museum of Flight, and I would highly recommend this to everyone, especially those who an interest in aviation and or military aviation. The museum is expansive and you need a full day to explore it all, maybe even two days. Click here to check out their website: https://www.museumofflight.org/

The museum is multi-storied, has two separate buildings and a courtyard. We went a little later in the day, so we only had time to explore the first building. There was an exhibit on the changing fashion of flight attendants throughout the years that my sister and I really liked. There was an exhibit of full-size military planes from WWI and WWII and exhibits of the evolution of flight.

There were opportunities to experience flight simulators too. After a short tutorial on how to use the controls, we climbed into this capsule and “flew” an F-14 in a combat mission. Hubby was the pilot and had to maneuver the plane while I was engaging in enemy fire. We barrel rolled, flew upside down and everything in between. It was quite tricky and we had a blast. We were belted in with over the shoulder straps, so when we turned upside down, we didn’t fall out of our seats.

One of my favorite displays was an exact replica of the Lockheed Model 10-E Electra plane. This is the type of plane she was flying when she disappeared near Howland Island in the Pacific Ocean.
