Mackinaw City…

We took an hour and a half Sunday drive with friends to Mackinaw City. Whenever we’re in northern Michigan, we try to stop at Mackinaw City…even if it’s just for a few hours, it’s one of our favorite places in Michigan. We always forge great memories here, and this trip was no exception!

My hubby’s favorite restaurant is Darrow’s Family Restaurant (https://www.darrowsrestaurant.com/), so we stopped here for dinner. The Darrow Family moved to this location in 1943, and in 1957 entered the food business by opening a hot dog stand in their garage. Over the years the family grew and so did the business until it became the landmark restaurant that it is today in Mackinaw City. It serves hearty home-cooked meals that is reminiscent of traditional family dinners of childhood across the country. The pies are fabulous!!!

After dinner we went to a nearby park with a rocky beach and great views of the Mackinac Bridge. We set up our camp chairs and enjoyed the scenery. This area is great to visit any time of year and in any type of weather; the moodiest of skies makes for a magical atmosphere.

Hubby is compelled to skip rocks whenever he is lakeside.

The wind-up….
…and the throw!

My friend went beachcombing and found this…

What an amazing blue color!

There’s a saying in Michigan, “wait a minute and the weather will change”. Which is to say that you can just about experience all four seasons in a single day here, so one ought to be prepared. Even in the middle of August, we found ourselves a bit cold and needed to put on hoodies, sweatshirts and jackets. Even Poppy was shivering…and she has a fur coat!

The weather didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves and making more happy memories! Mackinaw City, Pure Michigan!
