Lewisburg, West Virginia

Last winter, after watching a Hallmark Christmas movie, I found myself wishing I could live in a “Hallmark Town”. I did a Google search for Hallmark-esque towns and Lewisburg West Virginia made the list…and it did not disappoint!

Taking a stroll along the main thoroughfare.

Lewisburg has a vibrant downtown with lots of eateries, quaint shops, friendly locals, and a deep history. The area surrounding the city is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream with the Greenbrier River, hiking and biking trails, caverns, golf, kayaking…well you get the picture. The Art’s are well represented with a professional theatre company and outdoor concerts at Carnegie Hall.

We ate at the Humble Tomato, twice! Housed in a historic building dating back to 1787, we enjoyed our meal out on the patio surrounded by a mature flowering garden. It was so lovely, and they even brought a bowl of cold water for our pups!

Food is delicious!

The entire downtown area is lovely; the businesses here really know how to “dress” their windows which beckons you to step inside to investigate further. Lewisburg has a historic Civil War cemetery, is the site of the West Virginia State Fair and offers many interesting festivals over the course of the year, such as the Wild Trails Festival, Literary Festival, Taste of Our Town Festival and The Magic of Christmas Festival just to name a few.

The flowers along the businesses are amazing!

Lewisburg is the kind of town that is large enough so that you won’t get bored but small enough that life doesn’t seem rushed and harried. A place where church bells ring on Sundays and businesses open later and close early. There seems to be a balanced rhythm to life here.

I seem to have been smitten by lovely Lewisburg West Virginia…we’re already chatting about possibly returning in the fall!
