Hyacinths…

This weeks F.O.A.M. (Flowers On A Monday) is the Hyacinthus orientalis more commonly called the Hyacinth. The Hyacinth is native to southwestern Asia, southern Turkey, northwestern Syria, Lebanon and northern Palestine; but is now grown widely across the world.

I had attended an event (the name of which has long since faded from memory) two years ago and received this as a thank you gift. I had it on my kitchen table for many weeks before haphazardly planting it in a bare spot in the backyard flower bed….quickly forgotten. What a nice early spring surprise when this pretty thin emerges from the ground; giving color to an otherwise barren landscape. Things grow slowly in Spring here in Michigan…well in my yard least; this may have more to do with the gardener than the garden!
