Oscoda & Tawas Michigan

We had a wonderful Labor Day weekend visiting Oscoda and Tawas Michigan. We rented an adorable 658 sqft cottage, called Loon Lodge, on the waterfront of Van Etten Lake. It was a pet friendly, one-bedroom cottage, nicely decorated, with a lovely screened in porch where we watched gorgeous sunsets each night. I forgot to take a photo of the cottage, but you can see the listing on Vrbo that I hyper-linked in the name above.

I was pleasantly surprised at how pet friendly Oscoda and nearby East Tawas & Tawas City are, we were able to take Poppy with us just about everywhere. We visited Tawas Point State Park where leashed pets are welcome throughout the park, they even have a dog beach where pups can frolic in the water off leash!

Tawas City has an annual arts & crafts show during Labor Day weekend. I’ve never seen so many tents and food trucks! It is held at Shoreline Park which is right on the waterfront of Tawas Bay. Dogs are able to walk the shoreline on leash and Poppy had a great time; though she was more interested in the smells coming from the food trucks and other dogs than the water.

A little farther down the road is another nice park, Harbor Park in East Tawas. There is a really long pier that wraps around a marina overlooking Lake Huron.

Another day we kayaked the Au Sable River. My brother who lives in Oscoda lent us his kayaks and ferried us to both drop off and pick up points. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day.

After a few minutes Poppy snuggled in for the ride.

Oscoda and Tawas area is a great place to explore with lots to do and see, great for the whole family…including the furry four-legged members!
